A gift for the groom: a watch you design yourself

Updated:

A wristwatch is one of the classic gifts for a groom: a personal object he wears every day and keeps for years. At ATÉRET you design an automatic watch in 3D, choosing a 39 mm sapphire-crystal case, dial, hands and strap, and it is assembled by hand in Israel. Prices run from ₪790 to ₪940.

Why a watch for the groom

In many Israeli families the bride, or her parents, give the groom a gift before the wedding, and a watch is one of the oldest and best-loved choices. It is one of the few things a man wears almost every day, at work and at every simcha, and it brings back the day he received it every time he looks at it.

An automatic watch adds something more. It runs without a battery, winds itself from the motion of the wrist, and its seconds hand sweeps instead of ticking. It feels less like a gadget and more like something to pass on. New to automatics? Read our short explainer.

And when you design it yourself, it stops being just a nice watch. The blue dial or the black one, steel or leather: you chose them for him.

How to choose a watch for the groom

The watch builder comes down to four decisions: case, dial, hands and strap. A few questions make them easy:

  • What does he wear day to day? Shirts and office: a sunburst dial on a smooth case. Jeans and T-shirts: a sporty diver dial.
  • Metal or leather? A steel bracelet is tough, easy to clean and suits an Israeli summer. Leather is warmer and dressier, perfect with a wedding suit.
  • Gold tone or steel? A two-tone case with a gold-tone bezel and centre links is festive. All-steel is quiet and goes with everything.
  • Date or no date? A date window is useful every day; a no-date dial looks cleaner and more symmetrical.

Every watch is 39 mm across, a classic size that suits most wrists, including slimmer ones. Unsure? See the size guide. Your choices set the price: a complete watch costs ₪790 to ₪940, updated live in the builder.

When to order: plan ahead

A custom watch does not come off a shelf. After you order, we arrange payment with you on WhatsApp, and only then is the watch assembled by hand and sent or handed over. Do not leave it to the week of the wedding.

  1. Design the watch in the builder and keep the link, so you can ask a friend or his brother before deciding.
  2. Order on the site. The order is recorded straight away.
  3. Continue with us on WhatsApp to arrange payment and delivery; we confirm timing against the wedding date.
  4. The watch is assembled by hand and goes out to you.

Allow time. We do not promise a number of days here, because it depends on the watch and the season. Tell us the wedding date on WhatsApp and we confirm timing with you before you pay.

Ideas for giving it

  • Give it on the wedding morning, before the photos, so he wears it under the chuppah.
  • Add a short letter in the box.
  • Not sure of his size? A bracelet is shortened to the wrist and a leather strap adjusts with the buckle. See the size guide.
  • Tell him how to look after an automatic: if he has not worn it for a couple of days, a few turns of the crown get it going. See watch care.

Frequently asked questions

What is a traditional gift for the groom from the bride?

There is no rule, but a wristwatch is one of the oldest and most common choices: personal, worn every day and kept for years. A custom watch adds your choice in every detail.

How much does a groom's watch cost at ATÉRET?

It depends on the parts you choose: ₪790 to ₪940 for a complete watch, updated live in the builder.

How long before the wedding should I order?

As early as you can. The watch is assembled by hand after payment, so allow time. Tell us the wedding date on WhatsApp and we confirm timing before you pay.

What if I do not know his wrist size?

The 39 mm case suits most wrists. A bracelet is shortened by removing links and a leather strap adjusts with the buckle, so you do not need an exact size up front.

Does it need a battery?

No. It is an automatic watch with an NH35A movement that winds from wrist motion. Left off the wrist for about 41 hours it stops; a few turns of the crown restart it.
