How to design your own watch
A custom watch is five decisions: the case, the bezel, the dial, the hands and the strap. Here is what each one changes, what we stock today, and combinations that work well together.

The heart: the NH35A automatic movement
Every watch we build runs on the same mechanical automatic movement, the NH35A. It winds itself from the motion of your wrist, with no battery, and beats 21,600 times an hour: six beats a second. That is why the seconds hand moves in small smooth steps instead of jumping once a second like a quartz watch.
It has 24 jewels, about 41 hours of power reserve, hand-winding through the crown, hacking seconds for precise time-setting, and a date at 3 o'clock.
The case: 39 mm, and the finish sets the character
The case is 39 mm across with 20 mm between the lugs: a classic size that sits well on most wrists, small enough to slide under a cuff and present enough to wear every day.
Polished steel is the most versatile choice. Gold finishes suit an evening watch or a watch meant to be noticed. Black PVD gives a modern, understated look.

The bezel: smooth, fluted or ceramic
The bezel frames the dial and changes the watch more than you might expect. A smooth bezel is clean and minimal, ideal for a dress watch. A fluted bezel catches light from every angle for a classic, sparkling look. A black ceramic bezel adds contrast and a sportier feel.

The dial: colour, and the metal of the markers
Our dials have a sunburst finish: fine rays that shift in tone with the light, so a blue dial can look almost black in shade and vivid blue in sun. The dials in the builder are photographs of the real dials.
Look at the marker metal too: silver, gold or rose gold. A good rule is to match the marker metal to the case, or to choose a deliberate contrast such as gold markers in a steel case.

The hands: dauphine, sword or baton
Dauphine hands are faceted triangles with a centre ridge that catch light on both sides: the elegant choice. Sword hands are broad and pointed with luminous fill, very legible. Baton hands are straight and simple for a clean, modern face.

The strap: bracelet, leather, rubber or mesh
A three-link bracelet is the classic, hard-wearing everyday choice. A five-link bracelet is more supple and more sparkling thanks to its small polished centre links. A padded, stitched leather strap turns any combination into a dress watch. Rubber suits sport and summer. A Milanese mesh bracelet is fine and shimmering and looks especially good with light dials.
